Public Information Compliance Unit Senior Officer role

Contract role - 12 months - London

Experience in Data Protection and/or Freedom of Information or equivalent is essential.

Sound knowledge of the data protection act, disclosure principles with awareness of the broader law enforcement statutory environment e.g. DPA.

Excellent analytical skills.

Excellent report writing and drafting skills.

Risk Management skills.

Ability to negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Ability to prioritise workload based on risk.

Skills transfer achieved through the daily mentoring of existing staff.

Personally accountable for;

  • Managing and assisting with the prioritisation of Data Protection and FOIA casework.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in respect of the data protection act, particularly subject access requests, privacy impact/rights and freedom of information requests
  • Communicating complex technical decisions to a wide audience effectively and confidently.
  • Acting as a final decision maker with regard to casework, taking responsibility for ensuring that decisions made by PICU case officers are valid and appropriately recorded.
  • Leading and managing a diverse team in a dynamic, fast paced environment, working to tight statutory deadlines.
  • Lead on complex or high profile casework requiring liaison with every aspect of the agency, as well as key external partners.
  • Providing advice to others on the role of the team and the key legislation that governs the agency including the Data Protection Act (DPA), Freedom of Information Act, Regulatory and Investigative Powers Act.
  • Representing the client at internal and external meetings.
  • Contributing to the development of Data Protection and working practices.

Skills Transfer to staff is also a requirement of the role.

Assignment Exit: A structured debrief will be held with the individual and wider project team at the end of the assignment, followed by a written briefing stating the positive and negative aspects of the assignment and learning for the future.

Qualification:-Information Systems Examination Board qualification in Data Protection and/or Freedom of Information or equivalent qualification.
