At Concept, we can have up to 600 engineers out working per day across the UK. Our engineers install, upgrade and repair EPOS systems, ATMs, networking equipment, and other IT equipment.
But what does a day in the life of one of our Field Service Engineers look like?
Introducing Razak Hussain, recent winner of Engineer of the Quarter for Q3 2023, a Field Service Engineer who has been working with Concept for nearly 5 years and completed 41 projects for 18 different clients! We interviewed Razak to find out what it's like to be an IT Field Service Engineer at Concept.
How did you become a Field Service Engineer?
I became a Field Service Engineer after completing my CompTIA courses and started searching for roles on a job app. I came across a role that was perfect for me, so I applied for the role at Concept.
What are your general responsibilities in your role as a Field Service Engineer
As an IT Field Service Engineer, my general responsibilities include diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software issues, installing and configuring computer systems and networks, maintaining IT equipment, and ensuring systems security and data integrity.
What does a typical working day look like for you?
A typical day on project work would be me organising myself the previous night with the script for the job ahead. I would familiarise myself with what needs to be done. I would set off early to avoid any traffic, and reach the clients site on time so I can present myself and get ready for the task. After completing the task I would make sure the client is satisfied and fill out the necessary forms before leaving. Usually we would have 1-3 sites per day on project work so the time you finish can vary.
Tell us about the work you have done as a Field Engineer via Concept
I have completed various work for Concept that involved working as an ATM Engineer, configuring ATM's, a Configuration Technician which involved setting up new devices and also a Break-fix Engineer which involved swapping out hardware and setting up the new hardware.
What would you say are your favourite aspects of your role?
My favourite aspects of the role include solving complex technical challenges, interacting with diverse clients and solving their IT problems.
What has been your favourite project you have been a part of via Concept?
My favourite project that I have really enjoyed working on was working as an ATM engineer, this gave me access to behind the scenes of a bank, where I had to configure and install various hardware for ATM machines. I came across many challenges but the knowledge I left with made me a better engineer.
What do you like to do when you get a day off? Any hobbies, interests, things you do to relax
My newborn is now my best pass time, when I am not out in the field, I am looking after my little princess. When I do have time I love to create 3D models on Blender and take on mini projects to create commercials for different clients on social media.
