As part of Concept Resourcing’s ongoing commitment to raising money and awareness for worthy charities, we have now put together a team of highly capable ‘recruitment athletes’ who will be taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge later this year.
This challenge is certainly not for the faint hearted. The gruelling challenge consists of scaling the three largest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafel Pike and Snowdon), involving approximately 42km of total hiking distance, a total ascent of almost 10,000 ft and approximately 450-500 road miles in travelling between mountains - all within 24 hours!
You may be asking yourself right now, “Why would anyone in their right minds want to put themselves through such a challenge?” and for us the answer is simple - the Midlands Air Ambulance.
We have chosen to support the Midlands Air Ambulance throughout 2014 hoping to raise a minimum of £5,000 for what can only be described as a lifesaving service that we could not possibly do without, and more importantly it is a service that is solely funded by the enormous generosity of organisations, businesses and of course the public within the region through sponsorship and donations.
Here are a few key facts with regards to the MAA;
MAA serves the largest air ambulance region in the UK. This includes the communities of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire; representing a population in excess of 6 million.
Since flying its first mission in 1991, the charity has now responded to over 40,000 incidents, averaging 2,000 missions each year. This makes Midlands Air Ambulance one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance operators in the UK.
Every year Midlands Air Ambulance aircrew attend over 1,000 road traffic accidents on some of the most congested motorway networks in the country.
The Golden Hour- if a patient reaches hospital within 60 minutes of injury, their chances of survival are dramatically increased. All areas of the region are accessible in 19 minutes and 90% of the region is accessible within eight minutes.
The three air ambulance helicopters are based at Cosford in Shropshire, Tatenhill Airbase near Burton-on-Trent Staffordshire and M5 Strensham Services, Worcestershire.
Each year it costs in excess of £6.5 million to maintain the three aircraft and the provision of a lifesaving service. Each air ambulance mission costs an average of £2,500. The charity receives no funding from the Government or National Lottery.
So as you can see, by raising the £5,000 we’re aiming for, we with the help of our sponsors will contribute enough to fund 2 missions and ultimately help to save the lives of those in need of the MAA’s service during these missions.
We have no expectations in terms of the size of your donations, every penny raised will go towards this amazing charity and help them to continue the hard work they put in each year for the benefit of us all.
Sofia Voutianitis, corporate fundraising manager for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, comments: “Support from organisations such as Concept Resourcing is vital to enable us to operate our three air ambulance helicopters across the region. We wish Rich, Tom, Jon and Matt all the very best of luck with this particularly gruelling challenge, which will undoubtedly help to save more lives within the Midlands area.”
