This week Concept Resourcing was delighted to celebrate Emma Pickerill’s first Concept Resourcing anniversary as well not one but two promotions from Apprentice to Candidate Manager to Associate Account Manager.

Recently recognised as Concept’s Rising Star at our recent awards gala, Emma joined the business as an apprentice back in February 2019 to make her first foray into the world of recruitment. We’re pleased to say she hasn’t looked back! Since then she’s come in leaps and bounds and has established herself as a pillar within Concept’s Field Engineering Projects team.

In just 8 months, Emma made the jump from an Apprentice, working predominantly on admin and compliance based tasks to Candidate Manager where she focused more so on resourcing and handling candidates day to day. Since then, she’s been promoted once again to Associate Account Manager handling client relationships and overseeing projects in addition to her resourcing duties.

Emma learned on the job working at Concept while studying for her Level 2 Business Administration qualification, as of the end of February she’ll officially be signed off her course and will be working at Concept as a fully-fledged employee.

We asked Emma how her Concept journey has been so far:

“It’s all happened so quickly, but at the same time it feels as though I’ve been here forever. There’s honestly nothing that I don’t love about this job, no two days are the same and I really relish that challenge.

Not to mention that it’s the perfect job for someone who loves problem solving and talking to people as much as I do! Even though there are stressful days here and there, I can still always pick out something good that’s happened that day.”

A big part of working with apprentices is helping them on their personal learning journey, which means allowing them their allocated study time for ‘off the job learning’. At Concept, we did everything we could to ensure we were giving Emma the experience she needed.

“Everyone at Concept was so supportive of my studies, I never felt awkward about asking for time out of my day to complete my coursework. In fact, they regularly offered their help and guidance and would happily give me exposure to areas of the business that supported my modules.”

Emma may have been our first apprentice, but she certainly wasn’t our last. Since Emma joined the business last year we’ve gone on to work with 4 more apprentices – all in different areas of the business who are well on their way to flourishing in their own right.

The Concept team are big believers in the value that apprentices can bring to a business. Not only is an apprentice, above all else, willing to learn on the job, but they’ll also relish the opportunity to gain all the experience they can from your organisation.

We asked Emma to share some final pearls of wisdom for any apprentices thinking of taking their next step with Concept Resourcing:

“Just throw yourself in at the deep end and take the opportunity to learn as much as you can. Everyone here is so helpful and friendly, there really is no such thing as a stupid question so just dive in headfirst and make the most of the knowledge around you. ”
